The first days of their Easter holidays are soon to be enjoyed by the first federal states of Germany, with demand remaining high, according to the German Travel Association (DRV). At the top of the preferences are organized trips with flight packages to sunny destinations, as well as cruises in the Mediterranean, which are attracting more and more travelers.
This year, Easter falls later – in April, instead of March like last year – which pushes travelers to look for more summery Mediterranean destinations. Many regions start their season shortly before Easter, attracting tourists early.
According to the latest data from Travel Data + Analytics (TDA) on behalf of DRV, the five most popular destinations for air holiday packages during the Easter period are:
Türkiye (17% of total sales)
Egypt (14%)
Canary Islands (12%)
Balearic Islands (8%)
Greece (5%)
For comparison, in Easter 2024 – which had “fallen” in March – the Canary Islands were at the top of the list as one of the most popular winter destinations.
In addition to the main five destinations, increased interest is also recorded for the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, and the USA. At the same time, cruises – especially for families – remain a strong trend in the market.
DRV President Norbert Fiebig welcomed the revival of package holidays:
“The popularity of the well-insured, classic package holiday is growing again. Almost half of customers choose package holidays and benefit from the best price-performance ratio, crisis support and financial security in the event of bankruptcy.”
Package holidays include at least two tourist services – such as a flight and hotel or a flight and car rental – and are offered by the same organiser. Travellers enjoy additional legal protection as all individual elements of the package have been booked with the same tour operator.
For those who have not yet booked and intend to travel spontaneously, there are options – both at travel agencies and online platforms. However, flexibility in terms of destination, departure airport, and accommodation is essential, as this season is characterised by increased early bookings.
Around 8,000 travel agencies in Germany are available to offer comprehensive information, personal guidance, and solutions tailored to every budget. Tourism professionals remain valuable allies in planning, giving customers valuable advice on the best choice of destination and the ideal travel period.
